Terms of Use

These terms apply to the entire content of this web site. If you do not accept these terms, please do not use this web site. The University of Warwick (the "University") updates these terms from time to time and any changes will be effective immediately on being set out here. You further agree that these terms are also enforceable by our supplier, Aluminati Network Group Ltd, who host these pages on our behalf. Please ensure you are aware of the current terms. Please read these conditions carefully before using the site. They apply to all users of and visitors to the site (‘you’). In consideration of being allowed to use the site and by proceeding to use the site you signify that you agree to be bound by the following conditions (and documents referred to in them), as revised by us from time to time. Revised conditions take effect when published.

Thank you for visiting our site. The Office of Alumni Affairs is an office of Louisiana State University in Shreveport (‘we’/‘us’) and this site is governed by the same terms and conditions as the lsus.edu domain (‘central site’).

Information about us

The site belongs to the Louisiana State University in Shreveport, One University Boulevard, Shreveport, Louisiana, USA (“the University”).

We’ or ‘us’ means the University.

Use of the web site

  1. Please note that some areas of this web site are available only to University staff, students, alumni and/or other authorized University users. The use of this web site by members of the University is subject to the University’s Acceptable Use Policy for Computer Use.
  2. You must not use this web site or any facilities or information which are available through it to:
    • Commit or encourage unlawful acts or acts which breach of these terms of use;
    • Misrepresent your identity;
    • Hack, or attempt to hack, any part of the web site or any system used to run it;
    • Store personal data derived from the web site;
    • Post material that is obscene, offensive, or otherwise unlawful;
    • Technically harm the web site and/or its systems (including, without limitation, computer viruses or malicious software or harmful data).
    • Not to transmit ’junk mail’, ’spam’, ’chain letters’, or unsolicited mass distribution of marketing or other materials or communications including (without limitation) those connected to pyramid selling schemes.
  3. While the University tries to make this web site available 24 hours a day, it reserves the right to suspend or withdraw access, without notice, to either the whole or part of the web site, for any reason.

Information about you and your visits to our site

We process information about you in accordance with our privacy policy and that of the University at at https://www.information-compliance.admin.cam.ac.uk/data-protection#heading3 which both form part of these conditions. Aluminati also process information for their own purposes – see the Aluminati Data Protection Statement at https://www.cambridgecareers.aluminate.net/content/misc/privacyPolicy.php. Our website terms and conditions of use, where applicable, also apply to data provided by you to Aluminati and information derived from them.

By using our site, you consent to all such processing and warrant that all data you provide is true and accurate.

Information about you and your visits to our site

LSUS Alumni Network contains a directory of all LSUS graduates which contains their name and graduation date.  Through using the service and creating a profile, certain information provided by you (including your name, personal headline, biography, professional history, education details, email address and LinkedIn profile) will be accessible by other individuals who have registered for the LSUS Alumni Network (depending on what information you choose to share). These may be students, staff, or alumni. If the University holds an email address for you, users will also be able to send you messages within the engagement platform, based on your notification preferences. The reason for this is to allow users of the LSUS Alumni Network, including alumni and students, to make connections relevant to their interests. LSUS Alumni Network acts as a messaging forwarding service but your email address itself will remain anonymous to other users unless you choose to share it. 

Any information you submit to this website will also be visible to authorized University staff users (for the purpose of managing the service), as well as Aluminati employees. The University processes information about you in accordance with our privacy policy which forms part of these conditions, and in accordance with the University's Data Protection Policy. Data managed within the platform will never be sold or shared. By using our site, you consent to such processing which is required to provide the service and warrant that all data you provide is true and accurate.  If you partake in any mentoring schemes offered as part of LSUS Alumni Network, additional terms and conditions apply.  You will be presented with these upon accessing the mentoring area of the service and must agree to these before you can continue.

LSUS Alumni Network is one aspect of the University’s alumni and supporter engagement program.  As such, the University will also process information collected as part of users’ interactions with the platform to:

  • keep users up to date with news and progress regarding the University, including alumni events;
  • promote alumni and friends activities and programs;
  • further our charitable aims, including a range of fundraising programs such as direct marketing, telephone and email fundraising
  • provide you with any services you have requested and the promotion of benefits and services.
  • Further information on the information we collect and how we use it is contained in the full privacy policy. You can update your contact preferences or tell us you no longer wish to hear from the university at any time by contacting alumni@lsus.edu.

Accessing our site

Your user password and any other piece of information provided as part of our security procedures is confidential. You must not disclose it to any third party.

You are responsible for making all arrangements necessary for you to have access to the site.  You are also responsible for ensuring that all persons who access the site through your internet connection are aware of these conditions and comply with them. Access to the site is always at the University’s discretion and the University may withdraw or amend the services provided on the site without notice. From time to time the University may restrict access to some or all users to some or all parts of the site and sometimes the site may be unavailable. You use the site and the internet in general at your own risk. We use reasonable efforts to ensure the continuous operation and availability of the site and we use technologies to keep users' data safe and accurate but we cannot and do not guarantee these things.  Where possible we will post advance notice on the site where downtime is scheduled for maintenance. As is normal, you note the need to maintain backup copies of any important data. Whilst the University aims to update its site regularly the content on the site may be out of date at any given time.

If the University determines that you have breached any of these conditions, it may take action as it deems appropriate, including disabling your password whether chosen by you or allocated by us. You agree to indemnify us for all claims brought by a third party against us arising out of or in connection with any breach by you of any warranty set out in the conditions.

Uploading material to our site

Whenever you make use of a feature that allows you to upload material to the University’s site, or to contact other users of the site, you must comply with our acceptable use policy which forms part of these conditions. You warrant that any such contribution complies with that policy.

We shall respectively have the right to copy and use any material you upload for the purposes set out in our respective data protection statements and privacy policy and you grant a non-exclusive license royalty free for such purposes. If we choose to use any material you upload, we will try to contact you first. The University may view but does not actively monitor all material uploaded. Other users have the right to view but not copy material you upload to pages which are accessible by them.

We may disclose your identity if required by law or if requested by any third party who claims that any material posted or uploaded by you to our site constitutes a violation of their intellectual property rights, or of their right to privacy.

We do not assume responsibility or liability for the content or accuracy of any materials posted by you (or any other user of our site). We may remove any material or posting you make on our site if, in our opinion, such material does not comply with the University’s acceptable use policy.

Aluminati will report all complaints and breaches of which it is aware to the University and will act as instructed by the University in relation to University data.

Intellectual property rights

The University is the owner or the licensee of all intellectual property rights in the site and in the material published on it, except to the extent material is collected and published by Aluminati for purposes set out in its data protection statement. Contributions or material submitted by Louisiana State University in Shreveport staff and students (and others as prescribed) are also subject to the Statutes and Ordinances of Louisiana State University in Shreveport, specifically Ordinances, Chapter XIII Finance and Property, Intellectual Property Rights http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/univ/so/. All University material is protected by copyright laws and treaties around the world.  All such rights are reserved. You must acknowledge the University and that of any identified contributors as the authors of such material. Nothing contained in the site shall be taken, construed or considered as a grant of license or right to use the trademarks of the University of Cambridge or that of any third party displayed on the site without the prior written permission of the respective owner/s. Subject to statutory allowances, extracts of material from our site may be accessed, downloaded and printed for your personal and non-commercial use and you may draw the attention of others within your organization to material posted on the site.

You may not modify the paper or digital copies of any material printed off or downloaded in any way and you must not use any illustrations, photographs, video or audio sequences or any graphics separately from any accompanying text.  You must not use any part of the material on the site for direct or indirect commercial purposes or advantage without obtaining a license from us or our licensors.

If you print, copy, or download any part of the site in breach of these conditions, your right to use the site will cease immediately and you must at our option return or destroy any copies of material made.

Linking to our site

You may link to the LSU Alumni Network home pages and Aluminati’s business home page, provided you do so in a way that is fair and legal and does not damage the owner’s reputation or take advantage of it, and you must not establish a link in such a way as to suggest any form of association, approval or endorsement where none exists. You must not establish a link from any website that is not owned by you. Our sites must not be framed on any other site, nor may you create a link to any part of our sites other than the home page. We and Aluminati reserve the right to withdraw linking permission without notice. The website from which you are linking must comply in all respects with the University’s acceptable use policy.

Linking from our site

Where the University’s site contains links to other sites or resources provided by third parties, these links are provided for your information only.  We accept no responsibility for them or for any loss or damage that may arise from your use of them. We are not responsible for examining or evaluating. We do not assume any responsibility or liability for the actions, products, and content of any linked site or any other third-party.

Our liability

Material posted on the University’s site, including material posted by you or other users or Aluminati, is not intended and does not amount to advice on which reliance may be placed.

Material is provided on an 'AS IS' and 'AS AVAILABLE' basis. To the extent permitted by law, the University excludes any representations or any warranties (whether express or implied by law), including as to satisfactory quality, fitness of a particular purpose, non-infringement, compatibility, security, accuracy or the reliability of the site. This exclusion also applies to and for the benefit of Aluminati

Nothing in these terms of use is intended to exclude any liability for death or personal injury caused by proven negligence or fraudulent misrepresentation or any other liability which cannot be excluded or limited by law. Subject to that, neither the University nor Aluminati will be liable to you or any party for any of the following losses or damage even if the losses were reasonably foreseeable to both you and us when you began using the site: loss of data, loss of revenue or anticipated profits, loss of business, loss of opportunity, loss of goodwill or injury to reputation, loss suffered by third parties, any direct, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential loss or damages arising out of use of the site or reliance on any material or services provided in the site or accessed through it, whether or not amended by third parties and regardless of form of action and whether or not resulting from either of us breaching these conditions or from disruption, discontinuation or unavailability of the site at any time.

Trademarks

The name and image of Louisiana State University in Shreveport are trademarks.

Jurisdiction

You agree, as we do, to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts except that either or both the University and Aluminati may bring proceedings against you for breach of these conditions in your country of residence or any other relevant country.

General

If you breach these conditions and we take no action, we will still be entitled to use our respective rights and remedies in any other situation where you breach these conditions.

The headings in these conditions are for ease of reference only. Words preceding "include", "includes", "including" and "included" shall be construed without limitation by the words which follow those words. Definitions apply to any word derived from a defined word. If any of these conditions is deemed invalid, void, or for any reason unenforceable, that condition will be deemed severable and will not affect the validity and enforceability of any remaining condition.

Termination

You, the site user, can terminate your user profile at any time by contacting via email the Office of Alumni Affairs.

The University has the right to remove or deactivate user profiles, without notice and effective immediately, of any site user who breaches any part of these Terms and Conditions, if such action would be deemed necessary to protect the interests of the Service and its members, or if required to do so by law.

Any site user who has their account terminated or deactivated by the University must not re-register unless with the express permission of the Office of Alumni Affairs.

In the event of termination, the University shall have no obligation to maintain any content in your account or to forward any unread or unsent messages to you or any third party.

Notices

All notices, approvals, and other communications to be given under these Terms and Conditions shall be by email or, if in writing, must be sent by first class post or facsimile (such facsimile notice to be confirmed by letter posted first class within 24 hours of the transmission of the relevant facsimile) to the other party.
